Developing Hearts and Minds: New Activity Lessons at The Way Christian Schools

Although AI chat apps have overused the phrase “we’re excited to report” and “we’re thrilled to announce,” we really are excited to fill you in on a new initiative at The Way Christian Schools.

We’ve recently introduced sports and culture “Activity Lessons” for both our Primary and High School students. This programme, developed entirely by our staff (with no help from AI), aims to broaden our learners’ educational experience and develop their skills in various areas beyond the traditional classroom setting.

The Activity Lessons take place twice a week for both Primary and High school students. Each session lasts an hour, with Primary school activities taking place from 07:45 to 08:45 and High school activities from 14:00 to 15:10. This dedicated time allows learners to engage in various activities that cater to their diverse interests and talents.

The Purpose of Activity Lessons:

  1. Improve competitiveness in sports and cultural activities
  2. Provide opportunities for skill development
  3. Promote holistic growth
  4. Encourage participation in different aspects of school life

Activity Options:

  • Sports: Chess, soccer, netball, cross country
  • Culture: Choir, drama, dance
  • Practical Skills: Barista team

The Barista team, while not fitting into traditional sports or cultural categories, teaches students valuable skills for future employment and encourages a service-oriented mindset.

Early Results: Positive outcomes are already emerging from this initiative. The high school’s netball team performance has improved significantly, and learners achieved excellent results in their first chess tournament. The upcoming soccer league is anticipated with optimism.

Student Response: Students have embraced these Activity Lessons enthusiastically. They appreciate the opportunity to engage in activities that contribute to their personal growth and development. For example, the Barista team members are enjoying learning a practical, marketable skill and who doesn’t enjoy being part of a winning team?

The Way Christian Schools believe these Activity Lessons will play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded individuals who are prepared for future challenges. By providing diverse growth opportunities, the schools aim to help students discover and nurture their talents while developing important life skills.
