Extra Mural Activities

At THE WAY Christian School we also believe in and encourage learning through many other platforms. Extra Mural Activities outside of the classroom further grow and develop our children beyond academics where team work, interpersonal, hand-eye coordination and many more additional skills can be learnt.

Teenage Christian Cell

This is for teenagers, Grades 8 to 12 where they get together to discuss various bible topics and their real world application.

Intermediate Christian Cell

This is for younger grades 4 to 7, where they get together to discuss various bible topics and their real world application.

Young Leaners Bible Group

This is for the rest of the gang to get together to discuss various bible topics and their real world application.

Art & Craft Club

Learners can be creative and learn new skills in art and craft club, as well as crochet or knitting club.

Interhouse Athletics

We love athletics. At the beginning of each year we practise, learning skills that we didn't know we had. Throwing the javelin, discus and shot-put. Finally after learning and practising we then compete against other independent schools.

Boot Camp

A friendly, competitive atmosphere reigns at boot camp. Creative activities encourage learners to meet challenges and improve on their personal best. Latent leadership skills are developed as they are spurred to remain committed, irrespective of skill levels.

Glee Club

Our glee club is open to all learners who dream of becoming an actor a singer or a dancer! Here we build confidence and have lots of fun. “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman

Chess Club

As children play chess, they begin to see the importance of thinking ahead, trying to figure out what their opponent might do next and what their alternatives are too, in essence learning strategy. This ability to anticipate outcomes can transfer to their reading comprehension. Students can predict outcomes, and realize that characters in their stories are interconnected, just as just as they and their opponent, and the pieces on the chessboard are.

Extra Lessons

We also place additional emphasis on Academics by offering free extra lessons in English, Mathematics and Afrikaans as well as any other subjects where the learner may be having difficulty.

Outreach Programs

We involve our school's learners in Outreach projects to instil values of caring and compassion for those less fortunate.

Kairos Outside Ladies Prison Ministry

The Way learners assist this ministry by providing much needed toiletry items. Each learner is encouraged to support. We support them annually.

This event is a sponsored weekend for ladies who have family members still residing in prison. Thirty to forty women are invited to go on this weekend to get some much needed support and encouragement on an emotional and spiritual level. The aim is to help those outside prison to be able to relate to their incarcerated members once they are released back into society. The members in prison are also ministered to by Kairos Inside Workers and the family members of THESE prisoners are then invited to the Kairos Outside Ministry weekend.

We also provided Easter packets filled with Easter eggs and an assortment of stationery in conjunction with a venture run by Highway Church. These are then distributed to needy children living at Mooiplaas.

Munene Project

This NGO is run by a lady called Pretty Nyalungu. Her husband is a pastor in Tembisa. She assists young girls in Tembisa by teaching them various home-making skills because they are often the care-givers and guardians to younger children in child-headed homes. We support them by providing clothing and any items (bedding, tiles, curtain rails, kitchen utensils, etc.) that they could possibly use to make their homes more comfortable. We also collected money to make goody bags to distribute amongst the children in Tembisa. We have contributed annually towards this project since our first venture with them.

Wierda Park Feeding Scheme

Learners provided items such as, beanies, scarfs and packets of soup for an average of about 80 homeless men living in and around Wierda Park, on various occasions.

The Way Christian School was established in January, 1998 with only 40 learners meeting for its first Assembly. Today, our core values and Mission Statement remain the same, but many things have changed since those early days. Classes have been kept small in order to create an environment in which learners are able to develop as individuals within the given structures and parameters. Our staff has however, grown considerably since those early years and close on 300 learners now form part of our school family.
